Abstract

Digital technology development has made the internet and social media an inseparable part of children's and adolescents' lives. Broad access to information brings positive impacts, but also increases the risk of exposure to negative content such as violence, hate speech, online gambling, and pornography. This condition demands a digital supervision system (parental control) capable of assisting parents in monitoring children's online activities. This research aims to design the integration of Pi-hole as a DNS filtering system in home networks with a WhatsApp chatbot, which functions to provide real-time notifications, control, and monitoring. This system increases the effectiveness of parental supervision and creates a safe and child-friendly internet environment. The system was developed using the Waterfall model of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Implementation results show that the system successfully provides real-time DNS activity monitoring mechanisms, domain whitelist and blocklist management, and Pi-hole service control through a website interface and WhatsApp chatbot. The WhatsApp chatbot allows administrators to monitor and control the system remotely without needing to access the server directly. Functional testing using the black box method shows all features run according to specifications, while usability evaluation using the System Usability Scale (SUS) obtained a score of 62.25, which is categorized as Marginal High, indicating that the system is feasible for use but requires technical guidance to be operated optimally by users.
