Abstract

Memorizing the surahs in Juz Amma is an important part of Islamic religious learning, especially at the elementary school level. However, many students still experience difficulty memorizing due to a lack of interest in learning and unattractive learning media. Based on this, this study aims to design and develop an interactive educational game as an alternative learning medium that is more interesting and enjoyable. The game development was carried out using the Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC) approach, which includes the initiation, pre-production, production, testing, and distribution stages. Data on user needs were obtained through interviews with teachers at Muhammadiyah Elementary School with Special Programs in Baturan, to ensure that the game content is appropriate to the character and needs of students. This game was developed using Construct 2 software, with the support of other applications to produce an attractive visual display and interaction. The game is designed with audio features, a leveling system based on surah difficulty, and score-based evaluation. Based on the results of the study, the HafalanQ educational game was successfully developed and functioned well. The pretest and posttest results showed an increase in students' average score from 56 to 80 with a difference of 24 points. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of this game has a positive influence on improving students' memorization abilities. Overall, this game is considered suitable as an educational medium for memorizing letters and still has room for further development.
