Abstract
Jatiyoso Subdistrict, Karanganyar Regency, is an area with a high risk of landslides due to its hilly geomorphology, steep slopes, high rainfall, and the development of settlements and land use on slopes with low soil stability. Vulnerability to landslides is influenced not only by physical factors but also by the social conditions of the community. This study aims to analyze the social vulnerability of Jatiyoso residents to landslide risk during 2021–2024 and to compare vulnerability levels between rural and urban areas. The quantitative method was applied using the Social Vulnerability Index (SoVI), based on five indicators: population density, gender ratio, poverty, disability, and vulnerable age groups. Data were analyzed spatially using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to map the distribution of social vulnerability across villages. The results show SoVI values ranging from 0.238 to 0.856, classified into low, medium, and high vulnerability categories. The highest vulnerability was consistently found in urban villages, namely Wukirsawit, Karangsari, and Jatisawit, while Tlobo and Jatiyoso were categorized as low. Rural villages, including Beruk, Wonokeling, Wonorejo, and Petung, generally showed low to medium vulnerability, although an increase occurred in Beruk and Wonokeling in 2024. These findings indicate that social vulnerability in Jatiyoso is dynamic and multidimensional, mainly influenced by structural indicators such as population density and poverty. This study is expected to serve as a basis for disaster mitigation planning and landslide risk reduction strategies that are more attuned to the social characteristics of the local community.
