Abstract

Kudus Regency has significant agricultural potential, particularly for coffee, a commodity found in the Muria Mountains, which boasts unique ecological and cultural characteristics. However, this potential has not been optimally integrated into sustainable tourism development. This report aims to design a coffee-based agro-tourism area that functions as an educational, recreational, and productive space through the application of ecological architecture principles. The Integrated with Ecosystem approach is used to construct reciprocal relationships between human activities, the landscape, and ecological systems through strategies for energy efficiency, water conservation, the use of local materials, and the enhancement of regional biodiversity. The research method is empirical, using a qualitative approach through field observations, interviews, and literature review of ecological architecture and sustainable tourism theories. The results show that the application of ecological architecture principles can guide the design of a coffee agro-tourism area toward a spatial system that is adaptive to local topography and climate conditions, while simultaneously supporting the socio-economic sustainability of the local community. Thus, the design of the coffee-based agro-tourism area in Kudus serves as a model for architectural design that integrates tourism, education, and conservation functions sustainably within a harmonious ecological system.
