Abstract

Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in Indonesia, including in Yogyakarta, which recorded the highest number of cases in 2023. However, the region still lacks a specialized and fully equipped heart hospital. This final project proposes the design of a Heart Specialty Hospital in Yogyakarta using a Biophilic Design approach an architectural concept that emphasizes the connection between humans and nature to support holistic patient recovery. This approach integrates natural elements such as daylight, vegetation, good air circulation, and a tranquil atmosphere into the building design to create a healthy and comfortable healing environment. The methodology includes literature studies, field surveys, and comparative studies of similar hospitals. The design focuses on a type B hospital facility providing comprehensive cardiology services, including outpatient care, inpatient services, and emergency rooms. The goal is for this hospital not only to meet the community's medical needs but also to serve as a model of sustainable architecture that supports users’ physical, psychological, and emotional well-being.
