Abstract
The increasing demand for energy is driving the increased use of renewable energy in Indonesia, one of which is through the H-Darrieus type vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT), which is omnidirectional and has the potential for small-scale applications. This study aims to analyze the effect of the number of blades and pitch angle on angular velocity, torque, power coefficient (Cp), and Tip Speed Ratio (TSR), and to determine the optimal design combination to improve the performance of vertical wind turbines. Tests were conducted using an H-Darrieus turbine with a NACA 0019 airfoil profile with varying blade numbers and pitch angles of 0°–25° in a wind tunnel at wind speeds of 2–24 m/s. Angular velocity and torque measurements were performed using an A3144 Hall-effect sensor and an HX711 module-based load cell. The data were then processed to obtain Cp and TSR values as performance parameters. The results showed that the highest performance of the vertical wind turbine was achieved with a combination of four blades with a pitch angle of 15°. Based on a comparison of the power coefficient and Tip Speed Ratio, this combination is the most optimal design to improve the performance of the vertical wind turbine under these test conditions.
