Abstract

Women’s empowerment and gender equality play a strategic role in promoting inclusive and sustainable economic performance. This study aims to analyze the impact of women’s empowerment and the Gender Development Index on Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) across 34 provinces in Indonesia during the 2010–2023 period. Women’s empowerment is measured by women’s income contribution, the proportion of women employed as professional workers, and women’s representation in parliament. The analysis is conducted using panel data regression with the Fixed Effects Model as the most appropriate estimation approach. The results indicate that women’s income contribution, the proportion of women as professional workers, women’s parliamentary representation, and the Gender Development Index all have a positive effect on GRDP. These findings suggest that improvements in the quality, role, and participation of women in economic and political spheres contribute to strengthening regional economic performance. Therefore, development policies should be directed toward enhancing gender equality through expanded access to education, increased opportunities for professional employment, strengthened political participation, and support for women’s productivity to promote sustainable and equitable GRDP growth.
