Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyze the characteristics of spiritual leadership, leadership character, and the integration of Muhammadiyah values within managerial practices at the Regional Board of Muhammadiyah Madiun City. The primary focus is to understand how transcendental values influence organizational behavior and human resource development amidst the challenges of administrative bureaucratization. The research employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological paradigm. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 12 key informants consisting of strategic leaders within the Regional Board of Muhammadiyah (PDM), Muhammadiyah Business Ventures (AUM), and Autonomous Organizations (ORTOM) in Madiun City. Data analysis was conducted thematically using NVivo 12 Plus software to ensure the validity and structure of findings through a systematic coding process. The results indicate that leadership characteristics in Muhammadiyah Madiun City are based on Tauhid-based Leadership, where leadership is defined as an eschatological mandate with dual accountability (to God and humanity). A key finding reveals a shift in orientation from merely "seeking a living" (economic) to "seeking life" (afterlife). This research provides a theoretical contribution by expanding Louis Fry’s spiritual leadership theory through the inclusion of the "extended family" dimension as a strengthener of emotional stability and cadre loyalty. The integration of this spirituality manifests in the "Performance of Blessing" (Kinerja Berkah) model, a managerial pattern that prioritizes service (khidmah) and exemplary behavior (uswah hasanah) as drivers of organizational commitment. This study concludes that the professional management of Muhammadiyah’s ideological values is capable of creating high organizational resilience.
