Abstract

Background: Improving the quality of healthcare requires competent nurses in nursing management applications. Patient classification training, such as the Nursing Acuity System, is essential for improving nurses' knowledge. The Nursing Acuity System is a model that can help classify patients according to their needs, thus providing more efficient care. Therefore, appropriate training on the Nursing Acuity System Patient Classification model is crucial to improve nurses' knowledge. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of patient classification training (Nursing Acuity System) on nurses' knowledge in nursing management applications in hospitals. Method: This study uses a quantitative design with a quasi-experimental approach using a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The study was conducted at PKU Muhammadiyah Sampangan Hospital in June-July 2025 with a sample of 36 nurses selected using a non-probability sampling technique with the sample criteria of nurses at PKU Muhammadiyah Sampangan Hospital, a nursing educational background, having worked for at least 1 year and having attended Nursing Acuity System training, and giving consent to become research respondents. The research instrument consisted of a knowledge questionnaire before and after training. Results: The results of the study showed that there was an average difference of 11.39 before being given patient classification training and 13.39 after being given patient classification training provided by PKU Muhammadiyah Sampangan Hospital. There was also a significant difference between the level of nurses' knowledge before and after training (p = 0.000). Conclusion: Patient classification model training (Nursing Acuity System) has a significant impact on increasing nurses' knowledge.
