Abstract

Iron deficiency anemia is a health problem that still occurs frequently in adolescents and can lead to decreased concentration, fatigue, and reduced academic performance. Lack of knowledge is one of the factors contributing to the high incidence of anemia in adolescents. Health education is needed to improve adolescents' understanding, using methods tailored to the characteristics of the digital generation. This study aims to determine the difference in the effectiveness of education using animated videos and lectures in improving junior high school students' knowledge about iron deficiency anemia. This study is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design using a two-group pre-test post-test design. The research sample consisted of 64 seventh-grade students from SMP Negeri 3 Rembang, selected using cluster random sampling and divided into two groups, namely the animated video group and the lecture group (32 respondents each). The research instrument was a knowledge questionnaire consisting of 25 multiple-choice questions that had been tested for validity and reliability (Cronbach's Alpha 0.898). Data analysis was performed using the Independent Sample t-test and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed an increase in knowledge scores in both groups after the intervention. Bivariate analysis showed a difference in effectiveness between the animated video and lecture methods in increasing adolescents' knowledge about iron deficiency anemia (p < 0.05). The animated video method was more effective than the lecture method in increasing students' knowledge.
