Abstract

Mental health issues among Indonesian students are showing an increasingly urgent. At the national level, the highest prevalence of depression is recorded in the 15–24 age group, which corresponds to the typical age range of students, with a rate of 2%. Adolescents in this group are reported to have experienced at least one type of mental disorder within the past year. The high prevalence of depression and mental health disorders among adolescents has the potential to increase the risk of severe depression and even suicide. In Malang City, widely known as an Education City, mental health issues among students have also become a growing concern that requires serious attention. Each year, cases related to students mental health continue to emerge. Several contributing factors include academic pressure, social pressure, and heavy emotional burdens. These problems are further exacerbated by the limited availability of mental health support facilities for students. Therefore, a design approach that is able to respond to the psychological needs of students is urgently required. The proposed design is the Malang Student Mental Learning and Healing Center, which adopts a neuro-architecture approach as its core solution. Neuro-architecture offers design strategies based on human neurological responses to create calming spaces, encourage social interaction, and optimally support learning processes. This facility is expected not only to function as a place for learning, but also as an effective space for recovery and healing that helps reduce stress levels and mental health disorders among students. Through this design, it is hoped that an environment can be created that supports mental health, reduces stress, enhances the quality of social interaction, and provides comfort for students in their learning activities in Malang City.
