Abstract

Children's personal social development is influenced by various factors, including parental parenting styles. This is an important part of a child's growth and development. Parenting styles influence how children interact, develop, and adapt to society. This study aims to investigate the relationship between parenting styles towards preschool-aged children and their personal social development. This study used a cross-sectional approach to conduct a descriptive correlation study. This study involved all parents and preschool-aged children; a total of 67 parents and preschool-aged children were taken as samples. Data on parenting styles were collected through questionnaires, while the DDST was used to collect data on children's personal social development. The results of this study include univariate and bivariate data analysis using the Chi-Square test. The results show that most parents apply a democratic parenting style, while most preschool-aged children are in the personal social development category that is appropriate for their developmental stage. The results of the Chi-Square statistical test indicate a statistically significant relationship between the two categories. The p-value obtained from the Chi-Square statistical test is 0.000. Therefore, it can be concluded that the way parents raise their preschool children plays a crucial role in fostering their personal and social development. Therefore, parents are expected to employ the most effective parenting approaches to foster their children's social and personal development.
