Abstract

Knee osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint condition that commonly causes pain and functional impairment. The combination of kinesio taping and quadriceps exercise has been widely applied in physiotherapy to address these problems. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of kinesio taping combined with quadriceps exercise on pain intensity and functional ability in patients with knee osteoarthritis. A narrative literature review was conducted using articles retrieved from Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro). Studies published within the last ten years that met the inclusion criteria were included. From 1,282 identified articles, nine studies were analyzed. The findings indicate that the combination of kinesio taping and quadriceps exercise generally reduces pain intensity and improves functional outcomes measured by VAS, NRS, and WOMAC. Although several studies reported no significant differences compared to placebo taping or exercise alone Overall, kinesiotape provides benefits as a supportive therapy, while quadriceps exercise therapy is the main intervention in the physiotherapy rehabilitation program for knee osteoarthritis patients.
