Abstract
This study aims to analyze the concept of morality and Islamic values according to Imam Al-Ghazali and Ibn Miskawayh, and to evaluate the moral behavior of Muslim wibu students based on these perspectives. The phenomenon of Muslim students who are enthusiasts of Japanese popular culture (wibu) reflects a complex negotiation of moral and religious identity amid the global flow of cultural values that are not always aligned with Islamic principles. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with an Islamic value-based evaluative design, combining library research to formulate theoretical concepts and field research to gather empirical data. The subjects consist of four male Muslim students active in the Bacabuku literacy community on the Discord platform. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings reveal that Muslim wibu students possess a considerable awareness of Islamic morality, though its application varies. In the aspects of adab (ethics and manners) and social responsibility, they demonstrate strong alignment with Islamic values through politeness, respect, and social concern. The aspects of honesty (shidq) and worship (ibadah) show good religious awareness, albeit inconsistently practiced, while self-control (iffah) emerges as the most challenging due to the influence of permissive popular culture. Nevertheless, the presence of self-reflection, guilt, and moral improvement efforts indicates an ongoing process of self-purification (tazkiyatun nafs) and the pursuit of moral balance (i‘tidal al-nafs). Overall, the morality of Muslim wibu students can be understood as a form of transitional morality moving toward maturity, where Islamic values are not abandoned but continuously negotiated to remain relevant in modern life.
