Abstract

This study has two objectives, namely to analyze the effectiveness of Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) on students' critical thinking skills in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subjects at SMP N 1 Mojolaban. The study was conducted by comparing the pretest and posttest scores of the two treatment groups. The research method uses a positivistic paradigm with a field research approach, namely a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample determination uses purposive sampling. The data analysis method uses IMB SPSS 24, taking into account the Normality Test and Hypothesis Test. Data collection is carried out through tests, questionnaires, and validated documentation. Comparison of the two methods showed that the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) method was more effective in improving students' critical thinking skills than the Problem Based Learning (PBL) method. This finding was supported by the statistical test results, which yielded a probability value of 0.001 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference in improvement between the two treatments. Overall, this study concluded that Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) had a stronger impact on encouraging improvements in students' critical thinking skills.
