Abstract
This study aims to determine the relationship between social support and anxiety among swimming athletes at Paswind Swimming Club Surakarta, as well as to examine the differences in anxiety based on gender. The research used a quantitative correlational approach with a total of 110 athletes (54 males and 56 females) selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) modified from Zimet (1991) and the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2) developed by Martens et al. (1990). The results revealed a significant negative correlation between social support and anxiety (r = -0.626; p < 0.001), indicating that higher levels of social support are associated with lower anxiety levels among athletes. Meanwhile, there was no significant difference in anxiety levels between male and female athletes (p = 0.641). Overall, the categorization results indicated that social support was in the high category, while anxiety was in the very low category. These findings emphasize that social support plays a crucial role in reducing athletes’ pre-competition anxiety, while gender does not significantly influence anxiety levels
