Abstract

Theft with violence is a crime regulated by Article 365 of the Indonesian Criminal Code, which not only causes material losses but also threatens the safety of life and has psychological impacts on victims. This research was conducted because prevention of violent theft remains a concern in the Klaten area, even though the Klaten Police have implemented various preventive measures to maintain public security and order. This situation indicates a gap between the implemented prevention efforts and the facts encountered on the ground. The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of the Klaten Police in preventing violent theft and to examine the obstacles faced by the Klaten Police in preventing violent theft. The research method used is an empirical juridical approach with a sociological approach and data collection through interviews and literature review. The results of this study indicate that the Klaten Police have effectively prevented violent theft through outreach, security appeals, religious activities, and patrols. Although the Klaten Police have carried out their role in preventing violent theft, several internal and external obstacles remain. Internal constraints include a lack of personnel and limited infrastructure, while external constraints include a lack of community participation and psychological trauma among victims
