Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of FoMO and social media use on impulsive buying among 367 UMS students through a correlational quantitative approach using multiple linear regression analysis and convenience sampling. The research instruments consisted of three scales, namely Impulsive buying, FoMO Scale, and Social Media Use Scale. The results showed that FoMO and social media use had a significant simultaneous effect on impulsive buying (F = 1384.010; p < 0.05). Partially, FoMO (t = 6.151; β = 0.192; p < 0.001) and social media use (t = 24.846; β = 0.776; p < 0.001) also had a significant positive effect. The effective contribution of both was 88.4%, consisting of FoMO 16% and social media use 72.4%. The majority of respondents were in the high category for impulsive buying, FoMO, and social media use. These findings indicate that students with high FoMO and intense social media use are more prone to impulsive buying, in line with increasing digital consumption. This study is expected to encourage students to reflect on managing their consumption behavior and provide input for campuses in strengthening digital and financial literacy.
