Abstract

Background: Aging is a process characterized by a decline in body function. These changes affect the decline in lower limb muscle strength and cognitive function in body balance in the elderly. If postural balance and muscle strength are not managed properly, the risk of falls can increase. Physical exercise, including balance training, is very important for the elderly to reduce the risk of falls. Objective: To determine the effect of mirror balance feedback exercise on improving postural balance and lower limb muscle strength in the elderly. Method: A quantitative study with a quasi experimental/randomized controlled trial approach. This study aimed to determine the influence of variables, namely Mirror Balance Feedback Exercise (group 1) and Balance Exercise (group 2), on balance and lower limb muscle strength performed in the elderly. Results: There is an effect of mirror balance exercise on postural balance and lower extremity muscle strength in the elderly (p=0<.001). There is a difference between mirror balance exercise and balance exercise (p=<.001). Conclusion: There is an effect of mirror balance exercise on postural balance and lower extremity muscle strength in ederly. There is a difference between mirror balance exercise and balance exercise. Mirror balance exercise is more effective than balance exercise.
