Abstract

People with disabilities still face significant inequalities in social life. In Surakarta, there are 739 people with physical and sensoric disabilities. The lack of understanding of their condition by the surrounding community has resulted in limited support for accessibility, participation, and empowerment. Based on these issues, the purpose of this design is to create a Social Development Center as a forum for empowerment, social interaction, and a means of introduction for people with disabilities, especially physical and sensory disabilities, to the community so that awareness of equality and inclusiveness can be created. The approach used is Universal design, which is applied in building accessibility to emphasize an inclusive design solution for all groups. Data collection methods include literature studies, precedent studies, and field observations, using qualitative methods to produce design parameters, selected sites, and concepts for planning and design. The result of this planning and design is the creation of a Social Development Center with appropriate facilities and inclusive accessibility to accommodate social activities and interactions. This design is expected to reduce disparities and increase the participation and independence of people with disabilities in Surakarta.
