Abstract

Rapid urban growth has triggered an increasing need for land for residential, industrial, and infrastructure development, thus reducing the availability of Green Open Space (GOS). Surakarta City, as one of the growth centers in Central Java Province, has experienced significant changes in land use in recent years. This study aims to analyze changes in land use in 2017 and 2025 and identify the availability of GOS based on the minimum requirement of 30% of the total city area as stipulated in Law Number 26 of 2007. The main data for this study are Sentinel-2A images from 2017 and 2025, processed using the Object-Based Image Analysis (OBIA) method in ArcGIS Pro software. The processing process includes segmentation, classification with the Support Vector Machine algorithm, and accuracy testing using the Confusion Matrix Table. The classification results show an overall accuracy value of 76.36%. In 2017, land use was dominated by housing (67.84%), while GOS (green forest land, agricultural land, and grassland) reached 18.68%. By 2025, it is projected that there will be an increase in built-up area, specifically industrial land, accompanied by a significant decrease in green open space (GOS) to 16.17%, falling short of the minimum standard of 30%. This finding underscores the need for policies to control land conversion and protect GOS to maintain ecological balance and the quality of life for the people of Surakarta City.
