Abstract
Environmental damage caused by human activities has created an urgent need for all sectors, including banking, to implement sustainable development principles. Green banking has emerged as a strategy that integrates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects into banking operations. This study aims to analyze banks' compliance with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) regulations related to green banking, identify the obligations that must be fulfilled, the challenges faced, and the potential sanctions for non-compliance. This study uses a normative legal approach with a descriptive analytical method, focusing on three major banks in Indonesia: Bank Mandiri, BNI, and BCA. The results of the study show that the three banks have adopted green banking principles through sustainability reporting, green financing, and the implementation of ESG structures. However, challenges remain in the form of limited internal capacity, suboptimal understanding of regulations, and gaps between policy and practice. POJK No. 51/POJK.03/2017 and POJK No. 60/POJK.04/2017 serve as important legal foundations, but oversight and sanctions still require strengthening to ensure that sustainability principles are not merely formalities. In conclusion, the implementation of green banking in Indonesia has progressed, but its effectiveness heavily depends on the commitment of banking institutions and the active role of regulators in enforcing rules and providing guidance. Strengthening collaboration among stakeholders is key to achieving a sustainable financial system that contributes to environmental conservation.
