Abstract
PT. Bintang Makmur Sentosa Textile Industry is a company that produces polyester yarn PE 30. During the production process, several problems arise that hinder production performance, particularly in the winding machine process. One of these problems is the occurrence of defects in the PE 30 polyester yarn packages. The method used in this study is Six Sigma with the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) phases. The results of this study show that the defects caused by the winding machine are trosing defects with 5,534 cones, swelled defects with 3,339 cones, and collapsed cone defects with 604 cones. This research focuses only on the most frequent defect, which is trosing. The primary failure mode causing the trosing defect is an improper or loose drum bearing, which results in a Risk Priority Number (RPN) of 280. Thus, the improvements proposed in this study include preparing and implementing a standard for bearing installation, conducting training on bearing installation and maintenance, using installation aids to ensure precision, and performing inspections during disassembly related to the bearing shaft condition. The reduction of trosing defects during the evaluation period compared to the initial baseline, the increased stability of the winding machine process as shown by the more consistent performance of the drum bearing after the use of installation tools and routine inspections, the improved operator competence in bearing installation due to training and clearer standards, and the more structured maintenance process all contribute to minimizing potential component failures and downtime.
