Abstract
Introduction: Old age is the final stage of the life cycle. In old age (elderly), changes occur in the structure of various organ systems, which result in decreased muscle strength in the lower extremities and decreased cognitive function that affects their balance. This imbalance can increase the likelihood of injury, reduce efficiency, and ultimately affect the patient's quality of life. People with balance problems are at greater risk of falling. Research Objective: To determine the effect of mirror balance feedback exercise (MBFE) in improving postural balance and reducing the risk of falls in the elderly. Methods: This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental/randomized controlled trial design. There were 109 respondents divided into 2 groups using purposive sampling. Results: The results of the analysis showed that MBFE was more effective in improving dynamic balance with significant differences in Tandem Standing, Tandem Walking, and Timed Up and Go (p<0.001), while Balance Exercise played a greater role in reducing fear of falling through FES-I scores (p=0.020). Meanwhile, no significant differences were found between the two groups in terms of static balance (p>0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study confirm that MBFE is more appropriate for improving functional mobility, while Balance Exercise is beneficial in supporting the psychological adaptation of older adults to the risk of falling.
