Abstract

In schools with a boarding school system, academic problems are often encountered, such as the demands of many assignments and memorization requirements at the same time. In addition, unsatisfactory exam results will cause students to experience stress. This condition indicates that boarding school students are vulnerable to academic stress that can affect the learning process and its impact on psychological health. One factor to reduce academic stress is peer support as an external factor and coping strategies as an internal factor. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between Peer Support and Coping Strategies with Student Academic Stress. The method used in this study was quantitative with research instruments using questionnaires from the peer support scale, coping strategies, academic stress, with a purposive sampling technique. The population of this study were junior high school students who lived in boarding schools in the Purwodadi area, with a purposive sampling technique and a sample size of 114 respondents. Data analysis used multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this study showed an F value of 9.251 and a sig. value of 0.000, there is a significant relationship between peer support and coping strategies with student academic stress. The R Square value (0.143) indicates that 14.3% of peer support and coping strategy variables contribute to academic stress. Peer support has a significant negative relationship to academic stress (t = -3.956; sig = 0.000), as does coping strategy (t = -2.680; sig = 0.048).
