Abstract

High-strength concrete is widely applied in bridge structures, high-rise buildings, and other constructions requiring compressive strength above 40 MPa. This study aims to analyze the effect of substituting steel slag as fine aggregate and adding fiberglass on the compressive strength and split tensile strength of high-strength concrete. The research employed an experimental method with mix design based on SNI 03-2834-2000. The variations included steel slag at 0%, 20%, 40%, and 60% by weight of fine aggregate, combined with fiberglass at 0.6% by weight of cement, with the addition of 1% superplasticizer and 5% silica fume. Cylindrical specimens measuring 15 × 30 cm were tested at 28 days. The results showed that the 20% steel slag variation achieved the highest compressive strength of 45.34 MPa, representing a 31.27% increase compared to the control mix. However, the highest split tensile strength of 3.12 MPa was obtained from the control specimen. Substitution above 40% tended to reduce concrete performance due to increased porosity, while fiberglass addition reduced early cracking but had limited influence on split tensile strength. Therefore, the optimal use of steel slag at 20% can improve the compressive strength of high-strength concrete while promoting sustainable utilization of industrial waste.
