Abstract

The Wood Furniture Factory named PTC (Production Training Centre) in Surabaya, has been operating since 1995 with a land area of ±7,000 m², requires redesign and development to address problems such as weathered building conditions, insufficient green areas, poor waste management, and unfavorable working environment. This study aims to develop a design concept that integrates the functions of wood furniture production factory and potential human resource training facility in one architectural unity by applying sustainable architecture principles. The approach is implemented through the selection of eco-friendly local materials, waste utilization by turning wood debris into compost fertilizer, provision of green open spaces at least 10% in accordance with PERDA Surabaya regulations, as well as improvement of air circulation and optimized lighting. The results produce a redesign and development concept that considers zoning aspects, efficient production sequence, adequate training facilities, selection of sustainable local materials, and wood waste utilization. The research method is conducted in stages including data collection, analysis, and design process. This design is expected to transform the PTC Wood Furniture Factory in Surabaya into a high performing furniture production facility that is aligned with environmental and social welfare, as well as become a model for sustainable wood industry in Indonesia.
