Abstract
The use of language in public spaces, such as sales banners, reflects the dynamic language practices of society. Around Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, sales banners frequently utilize prefixes in word construction, such as me-, ber-, di-, ter-, and se-, to attract consumer attention. The use of these prefixes not only has a communicative function but also linguistic value that is relevant for study, particularly in the field of Indonesian language morphology. Furthermore, banners, as authentic texts, have the potential to be used as teaching materials in context- based learning. This study aims to describe the use of prefixes in sales banners, identify errors in their use, and evaluate their potential use as Indonesian language teaching materials. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method with observation and documentation techniques of banners found around campus. Data were analyzed using a morphological approach and assessed for linguistic accuracy. The results indicate that the prefixes me-, ber-, and di- are the most commonly used, functioning to form active and passive verbs, as well as convey persuasive promotional messages. However, spelling errors were also found, such as the preposition di being misspelled as a prefix. These findings suggest that banners can be used as contextual teaching materials in morphology learning, as they provide concrete examples of prefix use in everyday life.
