Abstract

Conventional donation boxes often face problems such as vulnerability to theft and a lack of transparency in fund management. To address these challenges, this study designed and built a smart donation box based on the ESP32 microcontroller, integrated with a security system and real-time audio notifications. The system is equipped with a 4x4 keypad for authentication, a solenoid lock for physical security, an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor for detecting the height of the box taken, and a DFPlayer Mini module that emits a warning sound when the box is moved without authorisation. Communication between devices is conducted via the ESP-NOW wireless protocol, enabling notifications to be sent quickly and efficiently without an internet connection. The methods used include comprehensive system design, hardware integration with ESP32, software development using Arduino IDE, and a series of system functionality and performance tests. The results of this research indicate that the developed smart donation box can respond quickly to potential threats, enhance security, and support transparency in donation activities. Thus, this system is expected to serve as an innovative solution in technology-based social fund management.
