Abstract
Background: Frozen shoulder is a condition characterized by pain and restricted movement in the shoulder joint (glenohumeral). This condition requires immediate treatment because it tends to worsen progressively over time. Objective: This case study aims to objectively determine the effect of deep tendon friction massage and PNF on scapular rhythm disorders in patients with frozen shoulder. Methods: This case study involved 2 elderly patients aged 45-75 years who experienced frozen shoulder with capsular pattern limitation and tested positive on the shrug sign test and range of motion (ROM) test. The subjects received deep friction massage on the rotator cuff muscles, levator scapulae, rhomboids, serratus anterior, and latissimus dorsi. Afterwards, PNF stretching was applied to the glenohumeral, acromioclavicular, sternoclavicular, and scapulothoracic joints. Both interventions were provided over four treatment sessions, with ROM measurements taken using a goniometer after each session. The measurement results were processed and presented in graphs and charts. Results: Four therapy sessions effectively improved shoulder ROM significantly in both patient A and patient B, with most movements approaching or reaching normal range of motion. Conclusion: The study demonstrated that the therapy program had a positive impact on improving shoulder movement function, with patient B achieving more optimal recovery results compared to patient A.
