Abstract

This study examines the representation of nationalism in the video "Rewind Indonesia2021" using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis theory. This video is a summaryof viral events that occurred in Indonesia throughout 2021 and was uploaded byIndonesian Youtubers accounts. In the video, messages of nationalism are conveyedthrough various symbols, such as the Red and White flag, social solidarity, and the spiritof awakening that represent the identity of the Indonesian nation. This research methoduses a qualitative approach with semiotic analysis that focuses on the Triadic(Representamen, Object and Interpretan) in the video. The results of the analysis showthat this video successfully communicates the values of nationalism through visualrepresentations that raise national issues, which consist of three main categories. Lovefor the homeland is represented through symbols such as the Red and White flag whichdepicts the emotional and spiritual attachment of the people to the Indonesian homeland.National solidarity is shown in scenes that show cooperation and mutual assistancebetween Indonesian citizens, especially in facing crises such as the COVID-19pandemic. Meanwhile, national identity is depicted through visuals that highlight statesymbols and pride in the nation, which strengthens the sense of unity and togetherness2among the people. This study concludes that the video “Rewind Indonesia 2021”functions as a medium that strengthens national awareness among the Indonesianpeople, especially the younger generation, by displaying various symbols that identifythe Indonesian nation as a unity that supports each other and rises together
