Abstract

Dental caries is one of the most commonly occurring health problems in the world that affects the hard tissues of the teeth. Many factors control the development of caries, including plaque retention, frequency of carbohydrate supply, acid, pH, and fluoride. Composite resin is a widely used restoration material for enamel abrasion, caries restoration treatment, and aesthetic needs, among others. Fluorine composite resin is a type of nanohybrid composite resin containing Ytterbium Trifluoride (YbF3) which is known to detect caries. Aim : To determine the effect of fluoride release in fluorine composite resin on changes in salivary pH. Methods : used a True Experimental Laboratory with Posttest-Only Control Design. A sample of 32 was categorized into two groups, namely fluorine composite resin (Tectic N-Cream) and non-fluorine composite resin (Filtek Z250xt) formed tablets with a 5 x 2 mm dimension. The samples were soaked in sterile distilled water using a conical tube incubated at 37o for 24 hours, then the samples were soaked with artificial saliva with a pH of 5.5. Furthermore, all samples were measured using a pH meter. Data analysis used Shapiro Wilk-Test to test normality and Independent Sample T-Test to determine the difference between the two sample groups after treatment. Results : there is a significant difference between the fluorine composite resin sample group and the non-fluorine composite resin (P < 0.05). Conclusion : Fluoride release of fluorine composite resin has an effect on changes in salivary pH.
