Abstract

Agronomy in Kulon Progo focuses on the development of sustainable modern farming techniques, including the utilisation of local varieties and environmentally friendly technologies, to improve farmers' productivity and welfare. However, the construction of New Yogyakarta International Airport (NYIA) and the planning of the aerotropolis area have led to significant agricultural land conversion, threatening the sustainability of the agricultural sector and employment in the region. In order to support economic growth and modern area development through environmental preservation, an Agronomy Exhibition Centre with agronomy educational tourism is designed to strengthen Kulon Progo's competitiveness as a tourist destination, business, and support the MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Conference, and Exhibition) sector in the aerotropolis area. The application of agronomic educational tourism to increase public awareness of food security, environmental preservation, and the local economy through hands-on experience and interactive learning that involves farmers and the younger generation in maintaining the sustainability of the agricultural sector. As a tourist and business destination, ecological architecture principles are applied to integrate the use of local materials, reduce environmental impact, and create a healthy and comfortable space, in line with the development efforts of the aerotropolis area which highlights the agricultural sector without eliminating agrarian dominance.
