Abstract

This study examines the application of The Timeless Way of Building concept in the design of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) Hotel, as a response to the need for adaptive, contextual, and sustainable accommodation facilities within the university environment. The concept, introduced by Christopher Alexander, serves as the primary foundation for the design process, emphasizing the creation of spaces that are not only functional and aesthetically pleasing, but also enduring and relevant amid changing times and user needs. The research methods employed include field observations, literature review, analysis of the site's physical and non-physical conditions, and case studies of contemporary hotels that adopt similar principles. The design outcomes demonstrate an integration of local values, sustainable architectural principles, and spatial flexibility to support the activities of the academic community and university guests. Through this approach, the hotel is envisioned not merely as an accommodation facility, but also as a representation of a modern, human-centered campus identity rooted in local wisdom.
