Abstract

Food security is a strategic issue in achieving Indonesia's vision for 2045, especially amidst high urbanization rates and the massive conversion of agricultural land. Surakarta, as a city with significant population growth, faces challenges in maintaining food availability due to the limited production land in urban areas. On the other hand, the Bengawan Solo River, as a key ecological element of the city, holds the potential to provide alternative space to address the urban space and food needs of its population. This research examines the concept of urban farming as an innovative approach to utilizing space above the river's flow to create a productive, adaptive, and sustainable urban farming hub. Through literature review, interviews, and site surveys, this study explores the regulatory, environmental, and social challenges of implementing the project, while formulating an architectural design that supports sustainable farming practices and preserves the river's ecological function. The findings aim to contribute to improving food security and revitalizing river areas in densely populated cities like Surakarta. Keywords: food security, urban farming, Bengawan Solo River, sustainable design.
