Abstract

Introduction : Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem related to height growth that is not in accordance with age standards. The prevalence of stunting in Indonesia in 2023 is 21.5% and the prevalence of stunting in Gatak is 12.3%. The level of energy and protein intake affects the synthesis of the hormone Insulin Growth Factor 1 to prevent stunting. Objective : This study aimed to determine the difference in energy intake and protein intake between stunted and non-stunted toddlers in the Gatak Health Center Working Area, Sukoharjo Regency. Methodology : This type of research is observational research using a cross sectional design. Respondents in this study amounted to 98 respondents who were divided into stunting groups and non-stunting groups of 49 respondents each with ages 24-59 months. Respondents were selected using simple random sampling technique. Energy and protein intake data were obtained using the Semi Quantitative-Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ) form and then processed using Nutrisurvey 2007. Data on the incidence of stunting was obtained by direct measurement using a microtoise. Data normality test used Kolmogorov Smirnov test. Data analysis used Independent T test for energy intake variables and Mann Whitney test for protein intake variables. Results : The average energy intake in stunted toddlers is 1092.22 kcal and the average energy intake in non-stunted toddlers is 1149.72 kcal. The average protein intake in the stunting group was 37.43 grams and the average protein intake in the non-stunting group was 43.18 grams. The results of the Independent T test on energy intake between stunted and non-stunted toddlers showed a p-value = 0.120. The results of the Mann Whitney test on protein intake for stunted and non-stunted toddlers showed a p-value = 0.000. Conclusion : There was no difference in energy intake between stunted and non-stunted toddlers and there is a difference in protein intake between stunted and non-stunted toddlers.
