Abstract

The design of the Klaten Art Center in Klaten Regency was motivated by the need for a representative and integrated space for expression, appreciation, and art education for the people of Klaten and its surroundings. Klaten Regency has diverse cultural and artistic potential, both traditional and contemporary, but until now there has been no integrated facility that can accommodate art activities optimally. This design aims to design an arts center that can be a forum for preserving local culture as well as a creative space that encourages the growth of modern art. A contemporary architectural approach was chosen as the basis for the design to create a building that is responsive to current needs, and able to present a dialogue between tradition and modernity. The contemporary architecture in this project is realized through the use of dynamic geometric forms, the integration of building technology, and the exploration of local materials combined with modern construction techniques. The principles of openness, longing for space, desire, and inclusivity are important elements in the design. The main facilities at the Klaten Art Center include an art gallery, entertainment space, creative studios, workshop spaces, public areas, and green open spaces that support social interaction and outdoor activities. The design method was implemented through literature studies, field observations, site analysis, and conceptual and programmatic approaches based on user needs. It is hoped that the Klaten Art Center can become a new cultural landmark that not only strengthens Klaten's artistic identity but also becomes a center for the growth of an inclusive and sustainable creative community.
