Abstract

The batik industry in Surakarta faces challenges in using environmentally friendly natural dyes. This is due to a lack of knowledge and facilities for processing natural dyes. This issue has resulted in suboptimal quality and quantity of batik production using natural dyes, yet demand for sustainable batik products continues to grow. This study aims to design a natural batik dye processing center that also serves as a production, education, and marketing facility, with sustainable architecture. The methods used include literature review, observation, interviews, and spatial needs analysis. The design integrates economic, social, cultural, and environmental aspects using local resources and environmentally friendly technology. The processing center will have a production area, an educational space, a marketing gallery, and a dye plant garden. The spatial layout is designed to support efficient circulation and working comfort. The integrated waste processing system is expected to reduce environmental impact and improve the quality and quantity of natural dye production, enhance artisans' knowledge, and support the sustainability of the batik industry in Surakarta.
