Abstract

Tegal Regency has great potential, especially in family medicinal plants, which was then developed into a herbal health tourism center in Kalibakung Village by the government in 2012. Starting to operate in 2015, Jamu Health Tourism was visited by many tourists, but began to be quiet because many facilities were abandoned due to lack of maintenance and calculation of resources and spatial planning. As a result, currently many facilities are abandoned and not used. To revive this tourist area, a redesign was carried out from the concept of tourism to become an education-based tourist area/edutourism. The goal is to optimize space and facilities and create an identity of a healthy and educational tourist area through traditional medicinal plants / herbs. The design concept as a means to reorganize the herbal health tourism area as a nature-based tourism and herbal health as well as an educational space to enhance the tourism experience and provide educational benefits for tourists and local communities. The design process includes a thorough analysis of the environment, facilities, activities, spatial layout and emphasis on edutourism elements. The result of this design is the addition of supporting facilities such as food court, and educational facilities, as well as renovation of previously abandoned buildings to make them more organized. Thus it is expected to revive and realize a traditional medicine-based health tourism area and also add insight for visitors.
