Abstract

XYZ MSME faces ergonomic challenges that affect work comfort and efficiency. This study aims to identify and improve suboptimal working postures through an ergonomic approach. Observations were conducted on core activities, namely material separation and peeling, which involve repetitive movements of the hands, wrists, arms, neck, and upper back. Musculoskeletal complaints were analyzed using the Nordic Body Map (NBM) method through questionnaires, while body posture risk evaluation was assessed using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA). NBM results indicated high risk among all three workers, and RULA findings revealed that two workers performing three activities required immediate intervention. The workstation was virtually redesigned using CATIA and SolidWorks software, enabling simulations of body interaction with work elements. Improvements focused on adjusting table height, designing ergonomic chairs, and repositioning tools to make hand reach more efficient and posture more neutral. Digital simulations were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the design in reducing workload and enhancing comfort. The results show that employee scored 76 on the NBM assessment, employee 2 scored 72, and employee 3 scored 73. The RULA results indicate that employee 1 received a score of 5 (high), employee 2 scored 4 (moderate), and employee 3 also scored 4 (moderate).
