Abstract

This research is motivated by the high number of bullying cases that have occurred recently, recorded up to 49% of 917 complaints to KPAI, especially in junior high school teenagers and even in Islamic boarding schools. This is certainly the responsibility of the principal to prevent or at least suppress the high number of bullying that occurs. Therefore, the author conducted this study to examine the role of the principal in the Ibnu Abbas Wiradesa Islamic boarding school and the Tahfidzhul Quran Ibn Khudzaifah Comal Islamic boarding school. The purpose of this study is to describe the role of school principals in preventing and handling bullying cases that occur in the two agencies. The method used in this writing is Qualitative Descriptive with a type of research in the form of filed research and using a phenomenological approach. The data analysis used in this study refers to the theory of Miles and Huberman by reducing, presenting and drawing data conclusions. The results of this study show that the role of school principals in preventing and handling bullying cases is stated in the program, including providing advice and examples, conducting manners studies, conducting parenting studies, providing socialization and collaborating with stakeholders. Giving points to violations, providing firm, fair and wise sanctions, conducting counseling and mediation, providing a good environment. The supporting factors are commitment and cooperation from the boarding school and parents, development of an anti-bullying curriculum, student participation, and good communication with the team. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors among them are lack of awareness and understanding of bullying, limited manpower and resources, and lack of support from parents. The author also found a striking difference between modern and traditional boarding schools in terms of the number of bullying cases that occurred, how to prevent and handle the inhibiting supporting factors.
