Abstract

The Depok Ornamental Bird and Fish Market in Surakarta City is one of the city's specialized trade centers with great potential as an educational and recreational tourism destination. However, its current condition reveals several issues, including ineffective circulation, inadequate facilities, and a lack of green open space. This final project aims to redesign the market using a Green Architecture approach to create an environmentally friendly, comfortable, and attractive area for both local visitors and tourists. The methodology includes on-site observations through Post-Occupancy Evaluation (EPH), literature studies, site and building analysis, and the formulation of a design concept based on Greenship principles established by the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI). The design outcomes demonstrate that applying Green Architecture enhances environmental quality through strategies such as rainwater management, natural lighting and ventilation, the use of sustainable materials, and well-structured spatial planning. The redesign also incorporates tourism elements, such as a multifunctional aviary and ecological ponds, to attract visitors and hobbyist communities. In conclusion, the Green Architecture approach in this redesign not only improves functionality and comfort but also transforms the market into a public space that is adaptive, educational, and sustainable within the context of Surakarta’s urban tourism development.
