Abstract

The design of the Coconut Crab Conservation Center in the Ternate Island Area with an Ecological Architecture approach focuses on creating a conservation center that functions as a sanctuary, research facility, educational space, and a preservation site for the natural habitat of the coconut crab (Birgus latro). This design aims to support the sustainability of coastal and mangrove ecosystems in Ternate Island while also raising awareness among the public and visitors about the importance of conserving this endemic species. The conservation area also provides environmentally friendly open spaces for educational and observational activities, allowing visitors to directly learn about the relationship between coconut crabs and their natural ecosystem. The design process employs descriptive and qualitative methods. The result is a conservation center that is functional, adaptive to the surrounding environment, and rooted in the principles of Ecological Architecture in its form development, material selection, and site arrangement, strengthening the building's connection with nature.
