Abstract

Traditional markets play an important role in the dynamics of the economy and culture of Indonesian society, but many markets, especially traditional markets, have experienced a decline in quality due to the development of modern markets and lack of maintenance. This study aims to redesign the Kartasura Traditional Market with a Neo Vernacular architectural approach, which combines local values with modern technology and materials. Through data collection methods in the form of literature studies, field observations, and interviews, an analysis was carried out on the functional, technical, and behavioral aspects of the existing market building. The evaluation results show that the Kartasura Market experiences various problems such as irregular zoning, poor circulation, inadequate facilities, and building appearances that do not reflect local identity. The redesign was carried out by applying the principles of Neo Vernacular architecture to create a market that is more comfortable, functional, and has local cultural appeal. The design results are expected to revive the local cultural identity of Kartasura while improving the quality of public space in supporting sustainable community economic activities.
