Abstract

A leather shoe MSME is a business that produces various types of shoes and sandals. This MSME faces production process issues, including an unstructured production flow and long distances between workstations, which lead to significant waste. This study aims to identify waste occurring in the leather shoe production process and provide improvement proposals to reduce it. The research method used for waste analysis is Value Stream Mapping (VSM). Based on the results, the identified types of waste include excessive transportation, unnecessary motion, excessive inventory, and waiting time. The initial total production time was 2467.48 seconds, with the percentage of value-added activities at 77%. After improvements, the production time decreased to 2185.14 seconds, and the percentage of value-added activities increased to 87%. The proposed improvements include rearranging the production layout, implementing the 5S approach, and recommending proper storage areas for tools and materials in the warehouse.
