Abstract

Mental Health has become a critical issue among urban communities due to increasing life pressures and the limited availability of public spaces that support psychological restoration. Taman Gergunung, as one of Klaten City's key green open spaces, holds great potential to be developed beyond recreational functions. Using the Restorative Environment Design (RED) approach, this project aims to redesign the park into a space that facilitates calmness, sensory engagement, and both reflective and social activities in harmony. The design methodology includes literature review, site observation, user surveys, and comparative studies of restorative urban parks. The proposed design divides the site into five main zones: reflective, light activity, social therapy, sensory education, and family & children—each of which applies RED principles: being away, fascination, extent, and compatibility. This design is expected to offer not only inclusive green space but also serve as a model for urban parks that address the deeper emotional and mental needs of their users.
