Abstract

Klaten Regency faces challenges in improving community literacy. The Community Literacy Development Index for Klaten Regency is still relatively low. One of the main causes is the lack of libraries that can accommodate the needs of the community. The main objective of designing the Library as a public space and literacy center is to encourage community interest in reading through a more contextual and relevant approach to current social needs. By accommodating the community's need for an educational and recreational public space, the library not only provides access to information sources but also creates an environment that supports learning activities, discussions, relaxation, social interaction, and accommodates various communities. Thus, the library becomes an integrative space between literacy, the environment, and the social life of the community. The biophilic concept approach in the library's design is used as a strategy to create a strong connection between humans and nature through architectural elements. The presence of these elements aims to create a psychologically and physiologically comfortable space, which can reduce stress levels and enhance users' focus and comfort. The biophilic approach is highly relevant for application in library buildings, as it not only strengthens the appeal of libraries as public spaces, but also contributes to improving the quality of interaction, reading experience, and overall user well-being.
