Abstract

The Soerjo Monument in Ngawi Regency is a historical site built to commemorate R.M.T. Ario Soerjo, the first Governor of East Java, who died in a tragic incident in 1948. Despite its high historical value and potential as an educational tourism destination, the current condition of the monument does not optimally support this function. A lack of visual appeal, limited supporting facilities, and inadequate landscape management hinder the site's ability to attract visitors and serve as a meaningful public space. This thesis proposes the revitalization of the Soerjo Monument using a memorial park approach, integrating elements of history, education, reflection, and social interaction into a cohesive spatial composition. The design strategy emphasizes strengthening the memorial value through symbolic architectural expressions, providing interactive educational facilities such as a mini museum and historical narrative paths, and organizing contemplative landscapes to enhance the visitor's spatial experience. The methodology includes literature studies, site observations, documentation, and interviews to analyze spatial needs, existing activities, and site potential. This revitalization is expected to improve the visual, functional, and social quality of the area, transforming the Soerjo Monument into not only a historical symbol but also an inclusive, reflective, and educational city landmark for the broader community.
