Abstract

Global climate change and increased human activity in coastal areas have caused significant degradation of the mangrove ecosystem. Demak Regency experiences abrasion, tidal flooding, and environmental degradation. Mangrove forests are wetland ecosystems that are spread along the coastline in tropical, subtropical, and warm climates. This ecosystem plays an important role in preventing erosion, providing habitat for fishery species, protecting coastal communities from extreme weather, and storing large amounts of blue carbon reserves, thus contributing to mitigating global climate change. The design of the Mangrove Ecotourism park was carried out using an Ecological Architecture approach to create a tourism area that is adaptive to environmental conditions, while encouraging ecosystem conservation and empowering coastal communities. This area is designed not only as an educational tourism destination, but also as an open learning space regarding the importance of environmental conservation and disaster mitigation. The design strategy includes the use of environmentally friendly materials, ecosystem-based utility systems, and the use of green technologies such as renewable energy and sustainable water management. The design also integrates the functions of education, conservation, and creative economic activities of local communities to create holistic social, economic, and environmental sustainability. Thus, this project is expected to become a prototype of a resilient and sustainable coastal ecotourism area in the future.
