Abstract

Semarang City faces significant challenges in providing adequate public space amidst the rapid growth of urban and commercial areas. One strategic area that has not been optimally utilized is Citadel Square, a commercial area in the city center. This research aims to explore the potential of developing the area into Semarang Citadel Park, an integrated space that combines elements of green open space, social interaction, and commercial functions in a sustainable manner. The methods used include identification of the existing characteristics of the area, literature study related to the concept of square and park, analysis of similar project precedents, and evaluation of building functions and social activities around the site. Urban design approach and contemporary architectual principles are used to design the transformation of this area. The design results show that Citadel Square has a large and flexible land potential to be developed into an adaptive and sustainable public space. Semarang Citadel Park is proposed as an urban space that integrates ecological, commercial and community functions harmoniously, and is able to improve the quality of the urban environment while encouraging new socio-economic growth in Semarang City.
